Churches from the Past in Polk County

Fairview & Beulah Churches
Part of the United Brethren Society.  Founded in October 1866 and was known as the Methodist Episcopal Church. The Beulah church ceased services in about 1900.  In 2008, there are no churches in Fairview.

Greens Chapel Methodist Church
Organized in 1885.  Merged with the Methodist Church in Stromsburg in June 1958.

Pleasant Valley Church
Built in the early 1890's, the church was moved to Fairview in 1921

First church built in 1889
Now part of the Catholic Church in Osceola.

St. Mary's Catholic Church
Osceola, NE
Founded about 1890, part of St. Vincents Catholic Church

St. Johns Lutheran Church
Originally was on the island in the Platte River south of Duncan, NE. A note in the 1871-1971 history of Polk County says that when the pastor serving the church in 1971 retires, the church building will be given to the Polk County Historical Museum. The church is now at the Polk County Historical Society site at the south end of Osecola, NE.

Swede Plain Methodist Church
Founded in 1876, In 2008, no longer in existence.

Valley Methodist Church
Founded in 1872 and first building in 1875.  This church ceased to exist in December 1966.  The members and the church records were transferred to the First United Church in Osceola.

Wayland Christian Church
Founded in March 1873.  The doors of the church were closed in February 1963.

Wesley Chapel
Founded in the fall of 1872.  In November 1947 the church merged with the Shelny Methodist Church
